2023 Annual Appeal: More Than A Horse

Equine therapy is so much more than developing riding skills. It’s about building confidence and developing relationships. It’s about learning new ways to discover your strengths and passion. It’s a journey. One that Adam began with Special Equestrians over 20 years ago, at the age of 5.

“I really enjoy coming to the barn each week and being around all the horses. I ride Mack now, but I have ridden almost every horse here,” explains Adam. He adds that his favorite thing to do in lessons is trotting and cantering. His instructor, Leslie tells us, “You see magic here every week, especially when it comes to Adam. Everything he does is done with such thoughtfulness and purpose, even when he’s riding.”

After many years of riding, Adam decided to sign up to volunteer at Special Equestrians. He explained that assisting in lessons and around the barn provide him with a way of repaying the kindness shown to him over the years, “I decided to volunteer because I like giving out my time, when I was younger people helped me out. Volunteering in the lessons with the students and seeing the smile on their faces is something I enjoy.”

As an organization, we have had the pleasure of watching Adam grow from that quiet 5-year-old boy into a confident and determined young man. “I feel like volunteering and riding at Special Equestrians has allowed me to mature as a person,” Adam said. “My social skills have improved because of the variety of people, children, and horses I have dealt with.” Adam’s ability to connect with our staff, other riders, and fellow volunteers is so wonderful, we are so proud of the man he has become.

At Special Equestrians, differences are embraced, and individuality is celebrated. Our programs are driven by the awareness that every person learns differently – and with help from donors like you, we can continue to support people like Adam, and children and adults of all abilities.

Today, Special Equestrians embarks on our 2023 annual appeal campaign. Making a donation is not just about donating money; it’s about investing in our community and becoming a part of something greater. Please consider making a donation to Special Equestrians today, and experience the profound satisfaction that comes from giving. Your support truly makes a difference.

With sincere thanks,
